World Cup 2010

Hopefully you've been enjoying the World Cup as much as we have this Summer.  It seems, from the videos I've seen online, that there has been a decent following of this year's tournament in the U.S., but it has been great being in a place with SO much enthusiasm for this sport and this tournament.  One of the finer luxuries have been the public viewings in down town Frankfurt, where they have all of the games played on screens that rival that of Turner Field for free.  Marisa and I went to the Germany vs. Australia match (above) as well as the USA vs. Ghana 2nd Round match.

One of the four goals scored against Australia.  It was a nice opener.

With the help of some of my co-workers, we did our best to support the USA's effort against Ghana.

The smaller of the two screens - nice and not-so-crowded for the USA game.  German games are a different story.

Co-worker Katie having a dance-off with a Ghana fan.  There actually was a pretty large following for Ghana at the public viewing.  Surprisingly, there has been a following for pretty much every team in the Cup - the extent of the internationalness of Frankfurt has definitely been apparent.

What you can see is a New Yorker with no shirt, unnecessary sunglasses (8:30 pm game), hair gel, and an American flag cape.  What you can't see is the gold chain and the camouflage shorts that complete this fan's superfluous look.

Check out the video of Landon Donovan's silky smooth penalty kick to tie Ghana and send it to overtime:
